The 2021 Cityzens Giving Young Leaders Summit, presented by Etihad Airways, continued on Tuesday, digitally connecting more than 500 young leaders in 25 cities across the world.

Day two saw participants take part in live interactive discussions on mentorship with City in the Community coaches – looking at the importance of mentoring future young leaders through volunteering opportunities, providing inspiration and offering valuable support to help them navigate their own paths and achieve their goals.

Nicholas Phillips, Community Outreach Lead Coach – Kicks, at CITC said: “I remember how much I benefitted from having a mentor back when I was a volunteer.

“Having someone committed to what I was doing and sharing their knowledge, hints and tips was invaluable. Now I use that as much as I can to develop my mentees.”

Reflecting on some of the challenges and rewards in mentoring relationships, Nicholas added: “Dealing with young people who don’t believe in themselves can be especially challenging. You know there is a diamond in that rough somewhere.

“You have to work to polish that diamond and when that pays off it’s incredibly rewarding.”

Each day, young leaders are sharing their own experiences and highlights from their projects.

Brian is someone who has benefitted from mentoring over his time as a participant and now a young leader with our Health Goals project in Los Angeles, supported by Nexen Tire.

Tune into the film (below) to find out how Brian and other young leaders in Los Angeles are using football to promote healthy active living in local city kids.

The Young Leaders Summit continues today with a focus on the importance of mental wellbeing.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update to see how the young leaders got on.
