At Fog Lane Park, Didsbury, the commemorative plate was unveiled on Friday, 6 October alongside a number of other tributes.
In attendance were 20 women who played for the club between 1949 and 1983 along with representatives from the Football Association, Manchester Football Association, Manchester City Council and former England international Kerry Davis.
Before the plaque was unveiled, the Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham paid his own special tribute to the team in a speech to those present.
The Corinthians were trailblazers for the women’s game and raised significant amounts of money for charity while also promoting women’s football during an age where female participation was discouraged.
The plaque and murals were funded by an appeal which included significant donations from the Football Association and Manchester City Council, alongside a swathe of individual donations.
The community group, the Friends of Fog Lane Park, played an instrumental part to ensure the Corinthians are remembered and that this aspect of the park’s life is properly recorded and acknowledged.
The murals were designed and painted by artist Gavin Renshaw.

Anne Grimes: “The Corinthians needed to be recognised because they did wonderful things including raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.”
Monica Curren: “It makes me feel very nostalgic. Not upset because it’s arrived, it’s here and we’ve received the recognition.”
Margaret Whitworth: “It’s just fantastic. It’s something I never thought would happen. It’s amazing to see. [It’s] fabulous.”
Jan Lyons: “It’s great to have recognition after everything we’ve gone through over the years. The passion and commitment. Your mum and dad driving you everywhere and paying for you. Getting my first boots after saving up like mad.
“Now it’s been recognised and obviously it’s great to have a blue plaque.”
Lesley Wright: “I’m so proud. I wasn’t old enough to have played at Fog Lane because I started playing about 1977, but it was great to see people who were in the same team as myself.
“To enjoy and celebrate this occasion and seeing how far we’ve come since the women’s game was restarted in 1971, it’s great.”
