Tumenzaya Khadkhuu started following City when he moved to Manchester for work in 2003 and, upon returning to his homeland, he began to connect with other supporters who shared his passion.
Based in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, Khadkhuu has been meeting with other supporters to watch matches together since 2011 and the group recently affiliated to officially join the supporters club family.
“I had the privilege to work and live in Manchester between 2003 to 2008, mainly in Rusholme, Didsbury and Ancoats,” he told mancity.com.
“I became a City fan during that time and have since been proud to witness City go from mid-table to one of the top teams in Europe.
“A few friends had tried to organise an Official Supporters Club in the past, but unfortunately this hadn’t materialised. Then, last summer our local football team approached us as they wanted to set up an official group.
“We would like to thank the Official Supporters Club for accepting our little community.”
The Mongolian branch enjoy an active social media presence, which they use to connect with supporters across the city and have their own football team, which has led to them hosting a local supporters club tournament for a number of years.
COVID-19 led to it’s postponement in 2020, but the competition is set to resume and one day they hope to visit the Etihad Stadium to watch City in person.
“We have a regular football team who plays for us and supports City,” Khadkhuu added.
“This Manchester City Mongolian team is one of the top teams in the City Cup, the local fan group tournament we have organised for the last four years.
“Our plans for the future are to grow our membership, continue our City Cup tournaments, to win the Mongolian Fanat Cup tournament and maybe even visit the Etihad in the near future.”
