This will be the first ever time a Premier League champion has dropped an NFT to celebrate a title win. 1, named to reflect City’s final position in the table, comprises four works by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist, Jon Noorlander, The Champions Celebrate, the hero piece of the collection, which will be a unique edition, Signed by the Champions, The Champions Mosaic and The Champions Medal.
This is the latest innovation from Manchester City, the Club which was named the most innovative sports team in the world, earlier this year, by the Sports Innovation Lab.
In addition to this drop, there will be a free prize draw giving fans and collectors all over the world a chance to win the prize of an edition of The Champions Medal. No purchase necessary.
A portion of Manchester City’s profits from the sale will go to the City in the Community charity, earmarked for our Manchester Cityzens Giving for Recovery project. The project uses football to support the mental health of local young people in Manchester in the wake of the pandemic, as part of City Football Group’s global recovery campaign bringing together its clubs, thousands of staff, players, coaches, and millions of fans to help communities get back on their feet in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 1 collection will drop on MakersPlace on Monday 24th May, the day after City lift the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium.
Don Dransfield, Chief Strategy Officer at City Football Group said:
“In a season played largely without fans in the stadium, digital engagement has been more relevant and important than ever before. That’s why as part of Manchester City’s Premier League title-winning celebrations, we wanted to mark the moment with this unique digital collection to commemorate this season like no other. Jon Noorlander is an incredible artist, renowned for his fluid and technical style – much like the beautiful football which Pep Guardiola’s team is famous for. Producing these art works as an NFT creates an opportunity not just to observe the incredible creativity of the pieces, but also to own a part of this historic moment in this historic season.”
NFTs are digital assets and collectibles. The authenticity, rarity, scarcity, ownership, and other properties of NFTs are independently guaranteed, verified, and secured on blockchain.
Unlike most digital content, which is temporarily provided as a service to users on a licensing basis, NFTs are truly ownable. An NFT is owned by its holder regardless of any decisions taken by any other party, including the NFT’s developer. Owners are free to do anything they want with their NFTs: they can sell them on a marketplace or trade them for other items.
