All Premier League matches between 6-15 April are dedicated to No Room For Racism, with clubs across the league highlighting their ongoing commitment to tackling discrimination.

Our upcoming home fixture against Luton Town on Saturday 13 April will be the Club’s dedicated Premier League fixture highlighting that there is No Room For Racism.

Ahead of the fixture, and as part of this season’s ongoing campaign, we are focusing on City in the Community’s (CITC) Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) programme.

PLPS is delivered to five to 11-year-olds across Greater Manchester, with the aim of supporting the delivery of PE and school sport.

Within the programme, coaches deliver ‘No Room For Racism’ workshops to all mainstream partner primary schools. These educational workshops engage the participants and cover several core areas:

  • Explaining why racism happens and the conscious and unconscious manners in which it can sometimes appear.
  • Discussing what it means to be an ally, specifically to someone who experiences racism.
  • Highlighting what we can do to be more inclusive and the impact this can have.

At this moment, CITC delivers in 24 schools and engages over 500 pupils across Greater Manchester every year. Consequently, PLPS is a key pillar for bringing together young people from all backgrounds, providing inclusive environments for young people to thrive.

Looking back on one of the recent workshops, a participating teacher, Mr Coats, commented:

“Thank you for delivering the workshop. It was great and was really useful because it’s important to talk about these things. I liked how you related it to inclusion and treating everyone in the class with respect.”

Meanwhile, one of the attending pupils said simply:

“It’s important to talk about it so that we can all help support each other.”

Commenting on PLPS, Lucy Gaskell-Milward, CITC’s Primary Schools Manager, said:

“Our Premier League Primary Stars programme uses the inspiration of Manchester City Football Club and the Premier League to inspire both pupils and teachers to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

“Through National Curriculum PE lessons, teacher CPD and a wide variety of education workshops CITC coaches develop pupils understanding and skills across topic areas.

“Our No Room For Racism workshops are so important to raise awareness and educate pupils on how to tackle discrimination. Pupils learn what to do if they are subject to racism and how to be active allies.”

In the meantime, during the wider No Room For Racism campaign, the Club will be running a dedicated matchday activation at Manchester City’s game against Luton on Saturday 13 April, where the men’s first team players will take the knee prior to kick-off.
