Two members of City’s Mexico City Official Supporters Club were given an extra special surprise during our recent Trophy Tour to the country when we arranged for Club legend Pablo Zabaleta – and the Premier League trophy – to greet them in person.

Mexico City branch treasurer Jorge had originally planned to link up with the Club during our summer tour to the United States before circumstances meant he had to alter his plans.

Instead, the Club then arranged to link up with him while we were in Mexico City on the Trophy Tour on the pretext of gauging his thoughts on what it was like to be an Official Supporters Club member in the country – and what it meant to him to be a City supporter.

Branch chair Marcos, meanwhile, had demonstrated his own dedication to the Club by embarking on a 10-hour bus journey in order to meet up with the Trophy Tour party in Mexico City.

Upon arrival in the Mexican capital, Marcos also thought we would be conducting a short interview with him about being part of an international Official Supporters Club.

Instead, to the pair’s surprise and delight, we shocked them both by introducing them to Zaba and the Premier League trophy.

Chair Marcos Mendez said: “We’ve met on Facebook a few years ago and that’s how our friendship and the OSC really began. Jorge is based in CDMX and looks after the admin side of things, also because we’ve a few members in the capital city.

“The Club visiting Mexico is a moment that we have been waiting for.”

During the surprise meeting, Zaba took the time to talk to the two members at length, signing their City shirts and branch flag before then presenting the branch with their commemorative Official Supporters Club plaque.

After the surprise, Marcos added: “We’re clearly emotional after this incredible moment. To be here and to be allowed to share this moment with Pablo Zabaleta and to see the trophy.

“We’re very happy and extremely grateful. C’MON CITY.”

Established in August 2021, the Mexico City branch are the first, and only, branch in the country and are going from strength to strength and now have 21 members.
