Julian Alvarez, Aymeric Laporte, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Maximo Perrone and Bernardo Silva paid a special visit to a children’s cancer charity in Tokyo, taking part in a community football session with the participants.

The players dropped in on a session being delivered by coaches from City in the Community for young people from Shine On! Kids, a charity that supports children with cancer and other serious illnesses in Japan and their families.

During their visit, the players participated in fun and engaging football sessions.

They also had the opportunity to hear more from the young people and their families about the support they’d received from Shine On! Kids, and the positive impact that football can have as a force for good.

Speaking about the experience, Bernardo Silva said: “It’s been great to visit Shine On! Kids.

“The young people and their families are inspiring, and it’s been very special to spend time with them.

“We’ve enjoyed spreading some joy through the power of football, but the children are the real heroes.”

Reflecting on the event, Kimberly Forsythe, founder and CEO Of Shine On! Kids, said: “All of the kids we support are so brave and resilient, but their tough treatments, combined with the isolation of COVID, have kept them from doing “normal” kid things for a very long time.

“Being able to join an international event like this led by one of the best football teams in the world is exciting, of course, but the benefits of building self-confidence and camaraderie go much deeper than that.

“I hope the coaches and players understand what a difference they have made in such a short time to these young people’s lives. They’ll remember this day forever!”
