With the support of Official Cityzens Giving Partner, SHB Bank, City in the Community (CITC) coaches delivered a digital training programme to 40 Young Leaders over two days in July.
In normal circumstances the sessions would have taken place in person, but due to restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, participants joined remotely for the first time.
The Young Leaders came from 5 SOS Children’s Villages – a charity which gives a home and a family to children who have lost one or both parents.
With the aim of enabling the Young Leaders to navigate these uncertain times, modules included adapting community football for social distancing, developing specific programmes in response to COVID-19 and education on WASH, numeracy, and literacy through football.
This teaching will allow Young Leaders to make a positive impact in their community and they will use their acquired skills and knowledge to deliver programmes to children aged between five and ten in the villages of Da Nang, Hue, Dong Hoi, Quy Nhon and Pleiku.
CITC coaches will also continue to provide remote support year round to the Young Leaders.

“Community spirit has never been more important than in the face of this pandemic and it is vital that our young leaders feel connected and empowered with the knowledge they need to continue supporting recovery efforts through football.”

The partnership to date has enabled CITC coaches to train a total of 160 Young Leaders from 11 SOS Villages in Hanoi and Da Nang, who have taken what they have learned to deliver football sessions to hundreds of children in their communities.
