City legends Shaun Wright-Phillips and Joleon Lescott – along with Club mascots Moonchester and Moonbeam – surprised local children in Yokohama by taking along the trophies to a community soccer school session ahead the Club’s preseason tour match against Yokohama F. Marinos.

Over the course of the day, 100 children took part in free soccer schools led by community coaches from both Manchester City and its sister Club Yokohama F. Marinos.

The senior sides met in the first game of the 2023 Asia Tour with City winning 5-3 in the Japan National Stadium.

Taking place in the city of Yokohama, the sessions brought together participants from across the city, including inclusive football sessions for young people with disabilities.

The participants and their families also had the opportunity to take photos with the trophies.

HOW TO FOLLOW CITY’S ASIA 2023 TOUR

Speaking about his enjoyment of the sessions, Wright-Phillips commented: “It’s been great fun seeing the young people enjoy the free football sessions put on by Man City and Yokohama F. Marinos.

“Community outreach is such an important part of our pre-season tours and it’s a pleasure to meet so many people from the wider fanbase here in Japan.”

Gareth Hughes, International Programmes Manager for City’s global foundation, added: “It’s fantastic to return to Yokohama F. Marinos and work alongside their community coaches again.

“Football is a global language, and that’s been evident in the young people’s enjoyment of the sessions that we’ve run together in Japan.”
