City in the Community providing Apprenticeships & Employment for local young people

City in the Community are committed to supporting the development of local young people, our Skills & Enterprise team provide educational programs and qualifications with a pathway into volunteering and employment opportunities.

Conrad Prendergast, Enterprise Co-ordinator was the first Community Apprentice and has now progressed to become a valued full-time member of the team. Conrad is a great example for all young people who are interested in pursuing a career in sport. A former MCFC mascot, avid City supporter and soccer school participant, Conrad has been involved with City in the Community for over 10 years.

Another ex-participant, George Duxbury is another success story of a local lad who was part of various programs whilst a student at Denton Community College. George took part in the ‘Enterprise City’ program, attended football sessions, and received mentoring from our staff in school before completing his work experience placement at the Club and progressing on to fulfil over 250 hours of volunteering. In September 2012, George successfully shone above 80 other applicants to become a City in the Community Apprentice and is now on his way to completing his NVQ qualifications whilst gaining valuable experience all the time.

“The apprenticeship was absolutely brilliant for me, I had the chance of learning it out of a book whereas this was hands on, I could get the experience whilst I was out on the pitch, it was much better for me. Just to get through to the interview stages and then to get the apprenticeship was a massive achievement for me. I absolutely loved it.” Conrad Prendergast (Enterprise Co-ordinator).

George also commented, “To get the opportunity to be a bigger part of City in the Community Foundation meant the world to me, it has been my dream for a while now to one day work fulltime as a Coordinator for City in the Community. I would recommend an apprenticeship as a great way of learning and a fantastic way to get into the sort of work which you aspire to in your future.”
