Velocity returned for its second year on 22 March, with over 200 riders participating and raising money for the City in the Community Foundation.

Fans took part before and after City’s 5-0 win over Fulham, competing to ride the fastest lap and cover the most distance travelled on the Velodrome track.

Inside the track centre, over 150 CITC programme participants showcased various activities including Futsal, Disability Sports, Boxing, Badminton and Judo.

The highlight of the activities saw Manchester Futsal Club narrowly win 4-3 against a MCFC former players team, managed by CITC ambassador Alex Williams and captained by Terry Phelan, in a showcase Futsal game.

On the track, Ian Brightwell, Richard Edghill and Peter Barnes tested their nerve and endurance as they took on the Velocity experience with some impressive times.

John Proud rode the fastest lap of 16.385 seconds with Nick Goodwin riding an impressive 144 laps as the most distance travelled. Chorlton Velo Uno combined to ride the team highest lap count, as the five riders rode 692 laps in one hour.

Overall, all Velocity riders totalled a mammoth 2,223 Kilometres, which covered 8,892 laps of the Velodrome. Well done to all!

Williams was especially delighted to see that the event had proved to be a success once again.

“I’m incredibly proud to have been part of our Velocity fundraising event,” he smiled. “It was such a great day. Not only did we raise over £26,000 for City in the Community, but over 400 people took part.

“All the money raised will go directly into supporting CITC’s initiatives and programmes that’ll really help make a different within Greater Manchester.”

City in the Community would like to thank event sponsor The Taylor Family Foundation. Their kind sponsorship enabled 100% of the event proceeds to benefit the lives of young people in our community. Thanks also to Nike, Foot Asylum and Jaguar Energy Drinks for their support.
