Recently, our Disability Coordinator Paul Kelly won a Barclays Community Hero award for his commitment and hard work.
As a reward, after our academy captains delivered the trophy to the pitch, Paul was given the once in a lifetime opportunity to present the Barclays Premier League Trophy to .
Paul has been blown away with the support friends, colleagues and students have shown since his appearance next to Kompany: “It has been a dream come true for me. I’ve been a City fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve been working with City in the Community for almost three years and if you’d have told me back then that in three years’ time I’d be on the pitch presenting the Barclay’s Premier League trophy to Vincent Kompany, I would never have believed you. My wife and three kids are so proud of me.”
“It’s also been a great platform for me to highlight the work City in the Community do for disabled people of all ages,” explained a passionate Paul. “From weekly football tournaments to power chair football we do as much as we can to show that football is for everyone.”
Before Paul left the stage, he told us he couldn’t help but join in the celebrations and do a cheeky fist pump which was watched by millions of amused fans.
The day after the celebrations, Paul went on a media tour with the trophy and spoke to BBC North West Tonight, ITV Granada, Manchester Evening News, BBC Radio 5Live and BBC Radio Manchester about his experience.
