Do you want to play football but worry you can’t keep up the pace? Walking Football returns every Wednesday from 5 November so why not give it a go?

Then City in the Community’s Walking Football initiative is perfect for you.

Last year, CITC introduced Manchester to Walking Football, a revolutionary sport designed for over-50s, but open to all age groups wanting to keep fit. The programme quickly became a success and the number of participants getting involved just keeps on growing.

The one key difference between Walking Football and standard football is simple - no running allowed!

As a minimal contact sport, it instead focuses on improving your health and well-being. During each session your heart rate will gradually increase, but you won’t have to worry about over-exerting yourself or suffering extensive aches and pains since there’s no running or slide tackles involved.

Among the countless health benefits Walking Football provides are:

  • Improved muscle strength
  • Better cognitive function
  • Lower stress levels
  • And the reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression and dementia

Moreover, being a very social activity, Walking Football is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones in a fun and relaxed sporting atmosphere.

Head of City in the Community, Mike Green, couldn’t be happier with the impact this initiative is already having on the community.

“You never know which activities are going to draw a crowd, but this one definitely is. Every week our numbers grow and it’s just amazing to see so many people in the community getting active and having fun as they do it.

“Walking Football has it all really being a highly rewarding and social sport. I think that’s why so many people have taken to it. We just hope it keeps on growing, because a healthy lifestyle only gets more important the older you get and the well-being of our local community is extremely important to everyone at CITC.”

CITC’s Walking Football sessions will be held every Tuesday from 4 November from 12-1pm at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre on the Etihad Campus. Each session costs just £2 and is definitely worth a shot, see you there!
