City in the Community has received support from ASDA, as part of the supermarket’s 50th birthday celebrations.

ASDA’s #cakemyday bus tour visited the Etihad Stadium on Thursday 23 July to present the team with a large cheque donation, in support of ‘City Cooks’.

Moonbeam and Moonchester were also on hand to enjoy the morning’s celebrations.

City Cooks

The City Cooks initiative works with families in the local community to promote healthy eating, develop cooking skills and encourage meal times. Families will be making a variety of meals together including stews, salads and healthy snacks.

Customers and colleagues at the ASDA Eastlands store were asked to nominate local community projects, with City in the Community receiving the most votes.

Alex Williams, City in the Community Ambassador, said: “City in the Community has proudly supported local people in Manchester for almost 30 years and we are looking forward to continuing this work with our City Cooks initiative.

“The eight-week family programme encourages parents and their children to cook together, choose healthier ingredients and more importantly, it demonstrates that cooking can be fun.

“Thank you to ASDA and everyone who voted for your continued support.”

Naomi Macdonald, Community Life Champion at Asda Eastlands, commented: “We wanted to give back to a deserving cause near Eastlands as a huge thank you for the work they do in the community – and City in the Community and their City Cooks initiative really fits the bill!”
