One City’s All Girls League, which is currently the only girls’ team in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts League, gives girls with disabilities the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting activities including football.
First launched at Manchester Central in 2014, the League has grown to number 12 teams that compete in regular fixtures across Manchester.
Paul Kelly, City in the Community’s Disability Football Co-ordinator, commented:
“The ‘One City’ All Girls League is an essential part of City in the Community’s disability sports programme. Before its launch there were minimal opportunities for females with disabilities to play football, but this league has changed that.
“Girls now have a pathway that enables them to compete in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts League and as a result we are seeing more female players taking part in our ‘One City’ Soccer Centres as well.”
‘One City’ is City in the Community’s disability football and multisport programme designed to increase sporting opportunities and promote disability sport in Manchester.
