SRtRC was first established in 1996 to educate young people about racism and in turn help combat its presence in society through the support of high-profile football players.
The students from three local Manchester primary schools kicked-off the afternoon with an educational workshop delivered by SRtRC representatives before engaging in a Q&A session with former professional footballers, Alex Williams and Howard Gayle.

“Show Racism the Red Card are delighted to be working with our partners at Manchester City FC and Manchester City Council again this season. Both the club and the council do a lot of great work to try and ensure that local communities are positive places to live and are free from prejudice.
“Manchester City have been great supporters of the SRtRC campaign over a number of years, holding regular anti-racism education events and hosting the 2013/14 National Schools Competition which celebrates the positive anti-racism messages of young people throughout England.
“This event represents a unique opportunity for young people from schools across Manchester to learn more about racism and their role in helping to tackle it at an exciting and inspiring venue.”
Reflecting on the afternoon’s session, City in the Community Ambassador, Alex Williams, who was inducted into the SRtRC Hall of Fame last May, said:
“Manchester City is proud of its longstanding relationship with Show Racism the Red Card and today’s event was a fantastic opportunity to reach out to the young people in our local community and to positively impact their attitudes towards diversity.
“Both Howard and I enjoyed taking questions from the students and I’m thrilled at how involved they all got in the discussion at hand. I really think everyone in the room has benefitted from today’s activities.”
