In 2014 Manchester City, along with City Football Group’s family of Clubs, launched Cityzens Giving, empowering City fans everywhere to decide how youth led community football programmes are funded.

While the team take their pre-season training preparations to China, our global community work continues and we invited 24 Young Leaders from the ‘Special Olympics East Asia Unified Schools’ in Beijing to access a three day Cityzens Giving leadership course offering cutting edge training in community football.

Supported by SoccerWorld in Beijing, the Young Leader Training involved modules specifically designed to enhance leadership and coaching skills and will culminate on Sunday, with the Young Leaders delivering a community football session for children from two local special schools at the Manchester City football festival in Beijing.

A young leader from Special Olympics commented: “We’ve learnt a lot over the past two days, both personally and professionally, especially around our own leadership style and how to use football to promote the inclusion of children with intellectual disabilities. It’s been really enjoyable and I’m looking forward to put what I’ve learnt into practice.”

Reeze Fan, Chief Executive Officer from SoccerWorld said: “We are delighted to support the Cityzens Giving Young Leaders Training in Beijing. SoccerWorld is passionate about developing and increasing opportunities for young people and using football as a platform for social good so there is a great synergy between the training and our core values.”

The Unified Schools Football Training project in Beijing, delivered in partnership with Special Olympics, will be a new addition to the Cityzens Giving family of projects in November 2016 and will see Young Leaders use the power of football to improve health, build friendships and create an inclusive environment for children with and without intellectual disabilities.
