The doors of the Blues’ state-of-the-art training facility were opened to aspiring female footballers as part of the Premier League Girls Football project, with six teams battling it out in a bid to be crowned champions.
City in the Community’s Women and Girls squad played their part in a competitive tournament, as Burnley and Wigan topped the group stage to make the final.
An entertaining game ensured the showpiece fixture did not disappoint and with the score line goalless after extra time, the drama of a penalty shoot-out ensued and it was the Clarets who held their nerve to lift the trophy.
All participants received tickets for the title deciding game between Manchester City Women and Chelsea and the day got better for the Burnley girls, who enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon as ball girls for the Academy Stadium fixture.
Funded by the Premier League and supported by Manchester City, the Premier League Girls Football project aims to encourage females aged between 6-25 to get active and become involved in football.
