The campaign, which delivers life changing community football projects across the world, collected this prestigious award, that acknowledges high achievement in sport for social change.
Having had a powerful effect in nine cities worldwide, a selection of Beyond Sport ambassadors, who include Lord Sebastian Coe, Desmond Tutu and Dame Kelly Holmes, as well as social development and sport experts, judged Cityzens Giving a worthy winner.
Commenting on the success, City Football Group’s Foundation Director, Tom Pitchon said: “To receive this external recognition of our Cityzens Giving initiative is very special.
“The fact that our community work in Manchester and around the world has been endorsed by some of the most respected names in community sport is testament to the passion and engagement of our fans, young leaders and staff locally and worldwide.
“We will continue to innovate and improve what we do to support young leader’s efforts to build brighter futures through football.”
Cityzens Giving empowers young people in cities around the world to tackle tough challenges affecting their communities through the power of football, including gang crime, HIV/Aids and social exclusion.
In 2016, over 100 young leaders from nine cities designed and delivered projects reaching over 10,000 other children and young people, aged between six and 35.
