Patients from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital were welcomed as honorary team members for the day, giving them an unforgettable experience and a chance to momentarily forget about their illnesses and have some fun.
Aged nine to 14-years-old, the six youngsters are all receiving on-going treatment for a range of life-threatening illnesses.
All big Blues, City in the Community teamed up with the hospital, to give the children a day to remember.
As they were to take their place alongside their footballing heroes, it was important the children looked the part and they all received a full 2016/17 home kit which they wore with pride during the shoot.
Sitting next to summer signing Nolito was nine-year-old Adam Finch from Stockport, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. His mum, Clare, was delighted to see her son’s dreams become a reality.
She said: “After such a difficult year in hospital it was so nice to receive such a treat for Adam and was lovely to see a big smile on his face. Adam really had the most wonderful day, so I’d like to thank everyone at Manchester City for helping make his dreams come true.”
Karen Bardsley ensured 10-year-old Ella Travis’ experience was extra special as she allowed the youngster to try on her goalkeeper gloves, with mum Andrea adding: ““Ella had an amazing time and is still smiling, even though she isn’t feeling too good. I can’t thank the Manchester City Women enough for giving Ella memories that she will treasure forever.”
Manchester City is proud to work closely with the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital each season, providing support for its patients through a variety of activities.

Alex Williams, City in the Community Ambassador said: “Along with City in the Community participants, the Club welcomes local patients to the team photo each year and we were delighted to include our women’s squad for the very first time.
“These brave youngsters are an inspiration to players and staff alike and we hope that the afternoon they spend with us will provide impactful memories that will last a lifetime.”
The Club’s continued commitment to providing patients with such special moments is greatly appreciated, as is the players willingness to go the extra mile to ensure all the children had a wonderful day.
