The little legs and determination of a City-mad youngster helped to raise more than £1000 for City in the Community last season.

Eight-year-old Lily Chapman raised a staggering £1,131.37 for the Foundation, who hosted the UK’s first all blue colour run as part of its 30th year celebrations.

More than 1,200 Cityzens were in attendance at the Etihad Campus, to skip, stroll or run the 5km course whilst being covered in their favourite colour.

With participants asked to fundraise in aid of City in the Community, Lily took it upon herself to help provide better opportunities for other children living in Manchester.

With a little help from her parents, Lily set up an online JustGiving page with a target of £100 and went about spreading the message of her 5km challenge and the reason behind her fundraising mission.

Within three days she had more than tripled her target, which set her on her way to an amazing total.

On the day, Lily’s legs carried her past the community wall, Academy Stadium and first team training facilities, before receiving her medal from Moonchester and Moonbeam at the finish line.

Taking place on Mother’s Day, Lily’s Mum was full of praise for her daughter’s achievement.

“The Blue Run has been a great way to spend Mother’s Day and I’m so proud of Lily for fundraising so much money for a cause she believes in,” she said.

“The route took us around the Etihad Stadium and City Football Academy so we got the see where the first team and women’s team train daily, so that was brilliant.

“We’ve been City fans all our life and we are so proud of the work our Club has done in the community – long may it continue.”

Former Blues’ goalkeeper and City in the Community Ambassador, Alex Williams MBE, echoed these sentiments.

“Every year, I’m inspired by the number of people who get behind the Club and City in the Community to take part in our fundraising events,” he added.

“Their support will ensure that City in the Community can continue to enhance the lives of thousands of people across Manchester.”

From the event, fans raised an incredible £40,000 for the Foundation, which will all go towards helping City in the Community create opportunities, build futures, and touch lives in a unique through football.
