In a unique take on the beautiful game, local females donned neon bibs and headbands and took to the pitch under UV lights as CITC hosted its first Glow Football competition.
Ran in conjunction with the Premier League Girls Football project, this innovative session encouraged fun in a bid to inspire more girls to get involved in the game.
Reflecting on the competition, City in the Community’s Women and Girls Officer, Hannah Hipkin-Steele said: “We wanted to try something new and unique to attract more participants to the project but also give our existing participants a chance to compete against each other in a different way!”
Delivered in partnership with the Football Association, Premier League Girls Football aims to provide opportunities for females aged 11 and over to take part in the sport in a local community setting.
The programme hopes to increase the number of females playing the game regularly and also to develop skills, confidence and to offer the chance to progress as a player, coach or official.
It does so by providing a fun and informal environment, allowing participants to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time, while also catering for those individuals looking to advance up the ladder.
The scheme has seen a number of professional teams create pathways with local community clubs in order to provide long term participation opportunities, with many now also delivering elements of the female talent pathway.
