More than 19,000 cereal boxes were handed out to over 80 local schools and nurseries as part of a healthy eating initiative at the Etihad Campus.
Delivered by eight students from the Foundation’s Premier League Works programme - who teamed up with national charity, His Church - the ‘give a child a breakfast’ campaign also included football-themed activities, as it helped ensure young people in the city started their day the right way.
This latest initiative forms part of CITC’s ongoing efforts to promote the importance of healthy eating and Aspirations Co-ordinator, Deborah Glynn, was delighted to see the campaign’s positive impact and praised the students responsible for its delivery.
“As City in the Community mark 30 years in the community, we wanted to create an initiative that helped local Manchester children through the power of football,” she said.
“Our group of inspiring young people were determined to give something back to the community and so they created the ‘give a child a breakfast’ campaign.
“It was great to see all their hard work come together on the day and in giving away 312,320 servings of breakfast cereal, we also make a huge difference to so many children across Manchester.”
The Premier League Works programme provides 18-24-year-olds who are not in employment, education or training with the opportunity to develop skills and enhance their CV and for student, Sam, it will allow him to take a positive step forward in his career.
“The Premier League Works programme has developed my confidence and communication skills in a fun and engaging way, and has helped me to prepare for working life,” he reflected.
“Being involved in the ‘give a child a breakfast’ project has been so rewarding. It was great to help so many school children and see all our hard work pay off.”
City in the Community’s Premier League Works programme is currently recruiting participants to start the 13-week programme in April 2017.
