City in the Community (CITC) has plenty of reasons to celebrate this International Women’s Day (IWD), with more girls then ever taking part in its activities

In the past four years, female participation in the Foundation’s community football sessions has increased from 6% to 44% and CITC will today mark this achievement across the city.

Hundreds of women and girls in Manchester will take part in community coaching sessions, while CITC volunteer Izzy Christiansen will spearhead a campaign locally.

The Manchester City Women and England midfielder is, along with other inspirational women, at the forefront of Manchester City Council’s IWD campaign, #StrongerMCRwomen.

You can spot Izzy on billboards all over the city, including on the Mancunian Way, and Man City Women has also extended its support by sponsoring the ‘Outstanding Woman’ award at a special ceremony taking place at the town hall.

CITC’s Women and Girls Officer, Hannah Hipkin-Steele is delighted to see the whole Club coming together to acknowledge IWD, as well the growth of girls’ football.

“Today, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day with the women and girls across Manchester,” she said.

“We are proud of how our programmes have developed and grown over the past four years and since September 2016, ‘City girls’ has engaged more than 750 female participants.

“Our aims is to create fun and competitive opportunities along with volunteering and practical work experience for the next generation.”

CITC provide opportunity for girls of all ages to enjoy the beautiful game, with children as young as two taking part in the Early Years programme.

The flagship women and girls’ development programme, ‘City Girls’, is a partnership between CITC, the Premier League and the FA to grow the game at all levels and provide progression opportunities in playing and coaching for females throughout Greater Manchester.
