Four Manchester City players experienced the work City in the Community is doing in local pre-schools when they joined youngsters at the Foundation’s early years project.

As part of CITC’s 30th year celebrations, Fernando, Fernandinho, Jane Ross and Georgia Stanway took part in the CityPlay programme alongside more than 20 pupils from E-ACT Blackley Academy.

Using fun and engaging sessions, CityPlay aims to help children aged between 2-5 years develop key fundamental movements, coordination, stability and object control.

The players enjoyed a jungle themed session at the City Football Academy, helping demonstrate several different exercises and encouraging the children to balance on one leg like a flamingo, climb through hoops like a monkey and hop on the ground like a frog.

“The City Play programme enables children across Manchester to be physically literate from an early age and supports their development as competent, confident and healthy movers,” explained Head of City in the Community, Mike Green.

“We know that current figures state 24% of children entering primary school in Manchester are overweight so this project aims to break that cycle and make a genuine impact to the health of the future generation.”

As part of the 30th year celebration, CITC are delivering 30,000 sessions to local people and consequently will help 50,000 Manchester kids get a better shot at life.
