Forming part of our Club partner’s ongoing support of the City Stars project, the competition asked year five pupils to produce a creative design which featured elements of Manchester City.
We received hundreds of entries, which were deliberated by a panel of City in the Community and Etihad representatives, who had the difficult task of deciding which design would be printed on to a scale model of an Etihad Airways plane.
The lucky winner was Harriet of St Margaret Mary’s RC Primary School, who was visited by City in the Community Ambassador, Alex Williams MBE and presented with the model plane.
“I was so surprised when my name was called, and my design was unveiled on the stage,” said Harriet.
“I put lots of blue on my plane for Manchester City, and I also did the wings like the Manchester bee because it’s really important to us.”
City Stars is City in the Community’s literacy programme, which was created to build children’s confidence, and bring reading, writing and spoken language to life through a series of football-themed activities.
Commenting on the programme, St Margaret Mary’s RC Primary School Head Teacher, Mr Sutton, added: “The children who have been involved with the City Stars initiative have really been engaged.
“The content of the programme has really enthused them, and they’ve really enjoyed working around their reading and writing skills.
“The competition generated lots of interest amongst the children, and helped developed their art skills, and their creativity.
“It was amazing to see the surprise on Harriet’s and all of the other children faces when Alex presented with the fantastic aeroplane and the tickets. It was just a fantastic event for the school.”
