An incredible show of support from fans around the world saw us total a record 770,288 votes, nearly double the number reached in the previous campaign.
Supported by the entire City Football Group family – including players, partners and most importantly fans of Manchester City, New York City and Melbourne City – these votes will allow Young Leaders to continue to make a difference to communities across the globe.
Your votes decided how the £400,000 pledged by City Football Group and its partners was distributed between six youth-led community projects that are using football to tackle pressing societal issues.
This year, Melbourne’s I Speak Football project came out on top with 21% of the vote and they’ll receive a grant of £83,623, which will support young leaders in their bid to promote social inclusion amongst the city’s multicultural population.
Manchester’s City Girls project will receive £60,973 and that will be used to fund weekly girls-only football sessions across the city, with the aim of reducing the number of females dropping out of the game.
Your support will also allow Young Leaders in four other cities – New York, Bangkok, Los Angeles and Guangzhou - to deliver their inspiring, football-based community work.
Now in its fourth year, the Cityzens Giving campaign has seen the City Football Group and its partners commit more than £2.1million and builds on the blueprint, expertise and work of City in the Community over the last 30 years.
This global footprint continues to expand and currently we support community football projects in 18 cities around the world, providing both funding and training to enhance these projects and empower young leaders to address social issues affecting their communities.
In addition to this year’s projects, City Football Group is also continuing to fund programmes in Beijing, Bandung, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Cape Coast, Kolkata, Cape Town, Barranquilla and Kuala Lumpur.
None of this would be possible without the votes of Manchester City fans and we would like to thank everyone who has participated for their support over the past four years.
