Manchester City is today proud to support Safer Internet Day 2019, a campaign that aims to inspire the safe and positive use of technology among children and their parents.

The global campaign is an annual event coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre, a partnership of three charitable organisations, Childnet International, the Internet Watch Foundation, and the South West Grid for Learning.

The Club takes safeguarding seriously across all fronts and has taken this opportunity to continue to raise awareness as to the safe usage of online technology.

Academy players have attended social media workshops, and along with their parents will be provided with E-safety information throughout the week.

Club staff have also been encouraged to attend IT sessions in order to discuss the respectful, responsible and creative use of technology.

City in the Community has been keen to demonstrate its support of the campaign through the delivery of a wide range of activities themed around the Safer Internet Day message of making the internet a better place.

The CITC Pathways participants this week will explore and evaluate the different issues surrounding gaming and how young people can stay safe online. This as well as investigating social media to understand its effects and influence. Alongside this, City Stars participants will see the Safer Internet Day campaign built into their ICT lessons throughout the week, providing important E-safety tips.

With an important priority of the Club being to ensure that the campaign’s message reaches as many young members of the local community as possible, City in the Community will also be delivering a “Wreck it Ralph” themed session around travelling through the internet to the Early Years participants. The activity will involve talking about different types of website and how to be as safe as possible online.
