Every week coaches from the foundation use the power of football to reach thousands of youngsters across the city. The inclusive programmes, which all have health and educational benefits, aim to tackle a wide range of social issues including anti-social behaviour, childhood obesity, inclusion and engagement in learning.
For the High Sheriff’s visit to City Football Academy, she was welcomed by City in the Community Ambassador Alex Williams MBE, Head of City in the Community Mike Green and Senior Operations Manager Lisa McKay.
Accompanied by the Under Sheriff, Dr Robina Shah spent the morning with 70 youngsters from a local primary school who were taking part in an Early Years and Primary Stars session. The High Sheriff also had the opportunity to meet with community coaches and degree students to discuss their experiences and the different programmes they work on.
Later, the group gathered in the centre circle of the indoor dome where The High Sheriff led the commendation ceremony.
The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Dr Robina Shah, commented; “I am amazed at the reach and the connection City in the Community have made with children and young people of all ages and circumstances to help them feel valued, confident and proud of who they are and that alone is worthy of a commendation.”
