When 12-year-old Ryan, from Walsall, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, his Uncle Adam promised him that as soon as he was well enough, they would go and watch their first Manchester City game together.
It wasn’t until 18 months later in September 2018, once Ryan had finished his treatment, that they went to see Manchester City take on Brighton together. From then he knew what he wanted his One True Wish to be - to meet Sergio Aguero.
After hearing Ryan’s inspirational story, Manchester City wanted to help grant his One True Wish.
Accompanied by his parents and older brother, Ryan kicked off his matchday experience with a unique behind-the-scenes tour of the Etihad Stadium, getting a sneak peek at the first-team dressing room, players warm-up facilities and press areas before anyone else had arrived.
Ryan was then first in line to greet the whole squad on their arrival at the stadium, before taking part in a pitch side photo shoot with club mascots, Moonbeam and Moonchester.
As kick off approached Ryan headed down to the tunnel to prepare for his special Mascot experience where he met his footballing hero and City’s all-time leading goal scorer, Sergio Aguero.
After leading out the team, Ryan then played a few passes on the pitch before having his photo taken with club captain, Vincent Kompany.
Ryan then headed to his VIP box to witness Manchester City’s 3-1 triumph over Watford.
Ryan’s mum, Lindsey, commented on his day:
“It was great to see Ryan smiling, he was in awe when he got to meet all the players and shake all of their hands – as they came off the coach, and also as he lead them through the tunnel at the start of the match!”
Ryan shared his delight; “I’m never washing this hand again!” after shaking his hero’s hand Sergio Aguero.
This wish experience forms part of Manchester City’s long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish UK, helping to create magical moments for brave Blues, like Ryan, from Manchester and beyond.
