Health and hygiene were high on the agenda as a trio of first team players took part in a City in the Community session to celebrate the charity’s partnership with Carex.

Ederson, Eric Garcia and Ian Carlo Poveda surprised pupils from Stanley Grove Primary Academy School, who had been invited to the City Football Academy for a special City Lifestyles session.

With the aim of helping children make healthier choices from an early age, City Lifestyles teaches cooking and hygiene skills, whilst also encouraging physical activity.

Ederson, Garcia and Poveda helped the children learn about balanced diets and threw themselves into the session, where they were tasked with categorising different food items into their correct nutritional groups in order to make up the ‘eat-well’ plate.

The event was supported by Carex, who were there to educate the youngsters on hand hygiene – a key part of the food preparation process.

The children then used their newfound knowledge to teach the players the five steps to hand washing, as well as the Carex hand washing song.

“At City in the Community, we are proud to support families across Manchester each year and our City Lifestyles programme provides a fun and educational way to do this,” said Head of City in the Community, Mike Green.

“It was great to see our players get involved in the session to help the children learn about hygiene, drawing from their own experiences of healthy living through their football careers.

“Both Carex and City in the Community are dedicated to encouraging children and their families to lead healthy and active lifestyles, and this, alongside Carex’s Manchester roots and community heritage, makes our partnership a natural fit for both organisations.

This year the City Lifestyles programme will be delivered in primary schools across Greater Manchester, if you would like to find out more about the programme please contact Lucy.milward@cityfootball.com
