Over £24,000 was raised by City fans, each of whom had paid for the chance to pull on the famous sky blue shirt and play in a 90-minute, fully officiated charity football match on 4th May 2009.
City legends Kenny Clements, Mike Doyle, Ian Scott and Andy May all supported the 2009 Football Aid event, either playing or managing supporters as they lived their dream.
Fan Rob Jones was delighted with his Football Aid “Live the Dream” experience. He said: “I type this bursting with pride thinking about my two girls running out with us as the team mascots, and also my two goals. Winning the game itself was just the icing on the cake.
“My wife would like to thank Football Aid for being invited into the hospitality areas and then the changing rooms with our girls. She felt especially welcomed. Thank you Football Aid and thank you to Manchester City for giving me the opportunity to play at the City of Manchester Stadium.”
Charitable funds generated from the event are distributed through Football Aid’s parent charity Field of Dreams, and split between diabetes research and management programmes and other highly deserving charitable projects nominated by the clubs involved.
In previous years, funds generated from this event has been distributed towards charitable organisations including The Genesis Appeal and The “Girls Only” Football Taster, both of whom have been nominated by Manchester City FC.
