A group of young people from MCFC’s award winning Kickz project picked up fresh silverware for the scheme recently when they won the North West heat of the ‘It Doesn’t Have to Happen’ football competition, organised by the Football Foundation and the Home Office.

The Under 16 team beat off competition from Oldham Athletic and Manchester United to win the tournament and will now represent MCFC at the national finals at Chelsea’s stadium Stamford Bridge this Saturday.

CITC also entered the Under 14 category with one of the participants Lewis Clearier named player of the tournament.

Dave Coppin, CITC’s Inclusion Co-ordinator said: ”The young people are really excited about going to Stamford Bridge and tournaments like these are what Kickz and City in the Community is all about – giving young people opportunities and chances they wouldn’t normally get.

I would also like to thank both Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council for their support in helping us take the young people to London.

CITC has been involved in Kickz since 2006 providing sporting and non-sporting activities for up to 150 young people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at two sites in Manchester.

And in October last year MCFC was named Kickz club of the year at a special awards ceremony at Wembley.
