City star Emmanuel Adebayor has been in rude health all season and is now aiming to improve the fitness of men in East Manchester.

Manu has pledged his support to City in the Community’s latest scheme Premier League Health which is backed by the New Football Pools and the Premier League and sees CITC’s staff providing free sport and health activities for men twice a week at Sporting Edge Sports Centre in Openshaw.

Before the Blues 3-1 win over West Ham United Adebayor accepted a cheque on behalf of the clubs’ registered charity CITC for £87,306.00 from the New Football Pools to fund the project over the next three years.

“It is important for everyone to take care of their health – CITC’s new project is one that could really help men in East Manchester to keep fit and also have fun by playing sport,” declared Ade.

Sessions take place on Monday and Wednesday between 4pm and 6pm and activities include football, badminton, boxing and basketball.

MCFC’s Health Trainer is also on hand at sessions to provide participants with simple tips and advice on eating healthier and being more physically active.

As well as taking part in free sports, participants will also be able to access free training provision through CITC’s partners and also have the chance to attend MCFC home games at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Premier League Health is a unique £1.63m programme funded by the New Football Pools and managed and administered by the Football Foundation that is utilizing football clubs to send a very clear message to men from the local community that their health and wellbeing matters.

Jon Sheehy, Marketing Director of the New Football Pools said: “We are delighted to be supporting City in the Community in this fantastic scheme.

“The Premier League Health project will make a real difference to some of the men in our local community.

“City in the Community is a strong vehicle to have a positive impact on the many social aspects in and around football and The New Football Pools look forward to working with them over the next three years of the project.”

CITC is also working with the Greater Manchester Health Trainer programme and the Manchester Joint Health Unit about expanding the project to other areas in Manchester from January next year.
