The programme involves CITC coaches using football to deliver sessions around healthy living, drugs awareness, no smoking and environmental awareness.
Following every class room session the young people are rewarded with a fun football session.
CITC’s Stockport Co-ordinator Gareth Hughes said: “The sessions are both educational and fun. By using the branding of Manchester City we are able to engage with the young people and the children are very responsive to our messages and work hard in the classroom to earn a football skills session as a reward.”
As well as the programme with Key Stage 2 in Primary Schools, CITC also deliver Disability football sessions in eight Stockport schools and are running a two day Soccer School in Stockport in June.
Last month Gareth was joined by City legend and new CITC Ambassador Paul Lake for a session at St Winifred’s RC Primary School in Heaton Mersey that focused on the dangers of smoking.
Class teacher Peter Jordan said: “The session was absolutely fantastic! The anti-smoking material was delivered in an interesting and a lively way. Having the chance to hear the message from an ex-City player such as Paul was also a great inspiration. They loved it.”
CITC’s Soccer School will take place at William Scholes Playing Fields on Thursday June 3rd and Friday June 4th 2010 from 9-30am – 2.30pm, ages 6-14 years - cost £10 per day.
