City's outstanding work in the local community has been recognised with a nomination for a top international award.

The Enterprise programmes run by City In The Community (CITC) will be up for the Team of the Year award at the Beyond Sport Community Awards, which will be announced in Cape Town later this month.

The aim of the programmes has been to create better educational opportunities through football for local school children and college students, and to help young people on the path from school to full-time employment.

Enterprise has created work experience opportunities within MCFC, and several apprentices now working around the club have started via the programme.

Nigel de Jong is the Enterprise programme’s ambassador and he is hoping that CITC are rewarded for the impact their initiative has had.

“Everyone at City In The Community should be proud of themselves for the way that their hard work has given some wonderful opportunities to kids in Manchester,” said the Dutch midfielder.

“I’m proud to be associated with the Enterprise programme and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the team in South Africa!”
