The local branch of national charity ReachOut! has been presented with the latest Connell Award by Manchester City.

The awards are designed to recognise exceptional dedication and commitment by an individual to local urban sports projects.

ReachOut! has established a programme in Higher Blackley that will give 30 disadvantaged young people access to football coaching and the chance to improve their GCSE results.

The programme is delivered in two sessions, with the first hour focussing on maths and English, whilst the second hour comprises of football coaching. The students are aged between 14 and 16 years of age, with the sessions taking place after school at Our Lady’s RC College.

Head of the programme is Hannah Christie, who was recently presented with her certificate at the Etihad Stadium by the Connell Awards Manager and former City goalkeeper Alex Williams MBE.
