For 30 years, City in the Community has been using the power of football to make a difference to the lives of local people in Manchester and today’s fundraising event saw more than £40,000 raised for Manchester City’s Foundation.
Former keeper and City in the Community Ambassador Alex Williams MBE started the 5km fun run and welcomed in participants as they crossed the finish line.
The Smith family from Droylsden took part in the event to support their local community.
Mother of three, Julie, was bursting with pride at her family’s achievement: “The Blue Run has been a great way to spend Mother’s Day and I’m so proud of the whole family for fundraising for City in the Community. The route took us around the Etihad Stadium and City Football Academy so we got to see where the 1st team and women’s team train daily so that’s been brilliant. We’ve been City fans all our life and we are so proud of the work our Club has done in the community - long may it continue.”
For 30 years, former Manchester City goalkeeper Alex Williams MBE has played an integral role in developing City in the Community into the award-winning charity it is today and said:
“As we mark 30 years in the community, it’s been fantastic to see so many families around the Etihad Campus today. Their support will ensure that City in the Community can continue to enhance the lives of thousands of people across Manchester.”
As part of the 30th year celebration, CITC are delivering 30,000 sessions to local people and consequently will help 50,000 Manchester kids get a better shot at life!
