Manchester City have confirmed the management structure for our Elite Development Squad and Under 18s ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Enzo Maresca has been appointed as manager of our EDS group in succession to Paul Harsley following the expiry of his contract.

The 40-year-old Italian enjoyed a highly successful near 20-year playing career, representing a host of Clubs including Juventus, with whom he won both Serie A and the Italian Super Cup, and Sevilla where Maresca was part of the Spanish side that won five major honours including two UEFA Cups and the Copa del Rey.

An energetic midfielder, Enzo also represented Malaga and Olympiakos as well as spending two years playing in England with West Bromwich Albion between 1998 and 2000.

A former Italian Under-21 international, Maresca embarked on his coaching career in 2017 with Ascoli before then joining the backroom staff at Sevilla.

More latterly, Maresca was a highly respected member of Manuel Pellegrini’s coaching staff during the Chilean’s tenure at West Ham United.

He will be assisted by Danny Walker, who steps up from his previous role of U16s lead.

Meanwhile, Carlos Vicens will take charge of City’s Under 18s this season following Gareth Taylor’s appointment earlier this summer to become manager of City’s Women.

Carlos joined City in 2017 from Majorcan club CD Llosetense, where he was assistant manager and Academy Director.

For the past two seasons Vicens has been assistant to Taylor with the pair helping the group achieve significant silverware, with City’s Under 18s lifting the 2019/20 Under 18 national title as well as both the 2019 and 2020 Under 18 Premier League Cup.

Vicens’ assistant will be former U11s lead Darren Hughes.
