Be positive. That’s the upbeat message from City Under-18s head coach Ben Wilkinson ahead of Tuesday’s top of the table Under-18 Premier League North home clash with Blackburn.

It will be first versus second when Rovers visit the CFA tomorrow for a game that CITY+ subscribers will be able to watch live from 11.55am.

Both Blackburn and reigning champions City have 27 points so far this term, but Rovers, who also have a game in hand, lead the way by virtue of a slightly better goal difference.

In terms of the overall title race, it promises to be a hugely significant fixture.

And from his perspective, City head coach Wilkinson wants his players to seek to capitalise on home advantage and seek to mirror the bold approach that has brought us success so far this season, most notably in a fine 5-0 win against Stoke last time out.

“It will be a really good game and it’s one we are really looking forward to,” Wilkinson asserted.

“Blackburn have done really well this season; their league position tells you that.

“But we have set ourselves up nicely for it and it is a game that we want to go on and win.

“We are playing at home so we will want to set the tempo, try and dominate the ball, try and be on the front foot.

“We have got a really young group and have put ourselves into a position to go and compete for titles.

“Overall, we’ve been pretty pleased so far (this season), but it is all about the run-in and being really consistent.

“If we can nail the performances like we did in our last match against Stoke then we can put ourselves in a really good position.

“As for Tuesday, it is a game that we want to look to win.”
