Charlie Gray has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old moves to the League One side in what will be his first spell away from City since joining the club at Under-9s level.

A composed and intelligent central midfielder, Gray made his senior debut for City as a substitute in last December’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Brentford.

It marked a key stage in his development after more than a decade as part of our Academy.

2023/24 saw him truly make his mark with our Under-18s, playing 19 times including in the FA Youth Cup final win over Leeds United.

Gray was instrumental to the EDS in the following campaign as we lifted the Premier League 2 title.

His form that year even earned him our EDS’ Players’ Player of the Season award.

He shone again at EDS level last term, with his performances drawing the attention of first team coaches for that call-up to the senior side.

Now, he’ll continue his development under Wigan manager Gary Caldwell in the third tier of English football.

Everyone at City would like to wish Charlie the very best of luck this season.
