Cole Palmer says the sense of anticipation is building as City’s EDS squad close in on what would be a maiden Premier League 2 title.

The attacking midfielder struck twice in last Friday’s superb 3-0 derby win over Manchester United’s Under-23s, to help move City within touching distance of clinching the league.

With Enzo Maresca’s side 11 points clear at the top and only three games remaining, the mathematics mean that if second-placed Blackburn Rovers fail to beat Liverpool tonight, City will be crowned champions.

Palmer, along with his EDS team mates, will be closely monitoring events at Leyland and he admits the whole squad are in buoyant mood with the prospect of becoming champions looming ever closer into view.

“Everyone is buzzing, the mood is good and beating United moved us one step closer to the title,” Palmer reflected.

“If Blackburn slip up, we can win that title. Obviously, it would be the first time in the club’s Under-23 history to win it so hopefully we can do it.”

Palmer, who has enjoyed a stand-out campaign and made a number of impressive first team appearances for City this term, was again at his inspirational best in the United win, with his first goal a spectacular long-range effort.

And Cole revealed that he had predicted he would find the target in eye-catching fashion to City colleague Raheem Sterling ahead of kick-off!

“In the first half I think I was quite quiet so at half-time I told myself I had to get going,” Palmer added.

“In terms of the screamer [his first goal] I spoke to Raheem in the morning and told him I was going to go and score a screamer.

“Obviously it’s a derby. It’s for the fans so hopefully the ones that watched it (on CITY+) enjoyed it.

“It was a good game and we started well in the first 30 minutes. We then got a bit sloppy but in the second half we came out and got the win so I’m delighted.”
