City’s Elite Development Squad manager Enzo Maresca had nothing but positive things to say about his side’s 4-0 win over Leicester at the Academy Stadium.

There were no signs of any lingering cobwebs following the two-week international break, with doubles from Felix Nmecha and Cole Palmer capping off a convincing display as the Young Blues moved up to fifth in the Premier League 2 table.

And Maresca was particularly pleased by how quickly we asserted our dominance on the game: “Our idea is always to try to play in the opposition’s half and I think today from the first minute we tried to do that.

“I think it was a complete game, maybe just some moments in the game, when we were two goals up and they had ten men, maybe we relaxed a little bit but this is normal.”

Cole Palmer was undoubtedly one of the star performers, grabbing a brace and an assist from the right wing.

And he was afforded that freedom thanks to right back CJ Egan-Riley often tucking inside when we were in possession.

Maresca explained his thinking behind the tactical move: “(It was) just to create a different option.

“When you play against some teams and they already know the way you play, we have to try and change something just to surprise them.

“I think CJ (Egan-Riley), against Everton and also in the Scunthorpe game, he did well with that.”
