Centre-half Luke Mbete was not surprised to see City’s Elite Development Squad come back off the international break with a convincing three points.

Enzo Maresca’s men made it two wins on the spin with a 4-0 victory over Leicester at the Academy Stadium, moving up to fifth in the Premier League 2 table in the process.

And Mbete revealed he and his teammates have been ready and raring to get back to the action throughout the two-week break.

He said: “When we came back from the international break we were all hungry, today’s game was the focus.

“Obviously the focus was to get the win, so we’re very pleased as a team.”

Despite an almost faultless performance from the Young Blues, it took until the 37th minute for us to find the breakthrough via the head of Felix Nmecha.

Mbete was never concerned by this though, and felt it was only a matter of time before the game would start to swing in our favour.

Instead, he was delighted by how he and his fellow defenders quickly shut out any suggestions that the visitors would come away from the Academy Stadium with a result.

“As a defender our role is to keep a clean sheet and we did the job today. It was very pleasing,” he reflected.

“As a team we stayed patient, continued working and doing what the manager told us to do.

“That’s going to happen in a game and Leicester played well but (eventually) we dominated.”
