Ben Wilkinson’s youngsters came into the tie having begun our 2023/24 campaign with an emphatic 6-0 league triumph over Blackburn Rovers.
They made the short journey west to face an Everton side still searching for their first U18 Premier League points of the season, and it was City who were quicker out the traps on Merseyside.
Indeed, the reigning U18 Premier League champions got off to a dream start when Warhurst firing home the opening goal at Finch Farm inside ten minutes.
However, City were forced into making a change before the break when Charlie Gray was replaced by Femi Fapetu due to injury.
Ben Wilkinson’s side were then pegged back midway through the second half.
It came from the penalty spot, with Everton forward Sherif coolly stroking home from 12 yards to level the scores on Merseyside.
Undeterred, City once again pressed for the advantage, and it arrived from one of our substitutes.
Indeed, Dunbar-McDonald stepped up when it mattered to fire home the game’s decisive goal in the 79th minute, ensuring we maintained our 100% start to 2023/24.

Spike Brits started in goal, shielded by a back four of Ezra Carrington, Kian Noble, Stephen Mfuni and Seb Naylor.
Charlie Gray shielded the back four with Jaden Heskey and Dan Batty completing the midfield.
At the sharp end, Farid Alfa-Ruprecht and Ashton Muir started on the flanks, with Matty Warhurst as centre-forward.
