The FA have confirmed the 2020/21 FA Youth Cup has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.

Manchester City Under-18s had been due to begin our defence of the trophy we won last season on Thursday evening with a third-round tie at home to Birmingham City.

That game will not go ahead on the original date, though the FA’s intention is for the competition to resume after the current national lockdown ends.

An FA statement said: “The health and wellbeing of players and staff are of paramount importance and we intend to resume the national competition once the UK Government’s current national COVID-19 lockdown concludes and it is deemed safer for clubs to travel.

“The FA Youth Participation & Development Committee, which is responsible for management of the competition, will continue to review the situation and we will provide further updates at the earliest opportunity.”

Our third round tie will be rearranged when the competition is able to resume and a new date and kick-off time will be announced on mancity.com.
