City were in control for long spells against Aston Villa in the fourth round and Fulham in the last 16, but failed to score the goals that would have put the game beyond doubt.
It left us clinging on in the dying minutes and though Taylor thinks that experience is valuable in a development sense, he is hoping for a commanding performance against Burnley.
“In the last couple of games, we’ve made life hard for ourselves,” he said. “It’s good for the young lads’ development to experience that.
“We’ve talked about that and the big moments where we need to put teams to the sword.
“We’ve not done that and it’s made the last 20 minutes of games more uncomfortable than they should have been.”
Having reached the last eight, City are entering the business end of the competition we finished runners-up in last season.
It’s something which brings the desire for success to the surface and whilst Taylor is happy to acknowledge that, he insists he is solely focused on beating Burnley.
“The FA Youth Cup is something we’ve wanted now for a few years,” he added.
“Last year, we came very close. Hopefully, this year we can go one better, but it’s a difficult competition to win.
“We’ll focus heavily on Burnley. We’ve been watching them quite a bit.
“We’ll make sure we’re ready to go and that the boys we put out on Wednesday give ourselves the best possible chance.
“The performance is important and hopefully, that will give us the result we’re looking for.”
