James McAtee was happy to see the Elite Development Squad go top of the Premier League 2 table after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.

McAtee himself got his name on the scoresheet, alongside Liam Delap to record a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Brighton.

The win for Enzo Maresca‘s side meant that we jumped to the top of the Premier League 2 table, one point ahead of Liverpool and this was something both McAtee and his teammates were delighted with.

“It’s a good win it means we go top of the table now so all the lads are happy with that, and hopefully we can keep going and keep on this winning streak.”

He added. “Everyone is buzzing but we’re just gonna keep our heads down. The next game is Tranmere on Tuesday so we’re gonna focus on that now and just take it game by game.”

The 18-year-old scored the second of City’s two goals and was delighted to get on the scoresheet, especially after missing out in our 7-2 victory over Liverpool last week.

“I was frustrated last week to not get on the scoresheet so looking to get a goal today and it worked out.”

However, despite finding the net McAtee believed he and his teammates could have, and probably should have had more than just the two goals they scored.

“All the lads are frustrated. We think this should have been a 5-1, 4-1 game so next game we’ll be trying to make sure we finish our chances and are more clinical.
