A 4-2 victory over nearest challengers Sunderland on Saturday saw us secure top spot with a game to spare.
Ben Wilkinson’s side have followed in the footsteps of their predecessors and made history as we become the first club ever to lead the regional league four years in a row.
We have lifted the title in each of the last three campaigns and were top of the table in 2019/20 when the season was cancelled due to COVID.
The success comes off the back of a 12-game winning run and was founded upon a potent attack and strong defence, with City outscoring every other side in the country and conceding fewer goals than anyone else too.
In our 23 matches so far, we have scored 81 and conceded just 21.
We will now face southern winners West Ham United in the national final. Further details on that game will follow in due course.
With Brian Barry-Murphy’s Elite Development Squad leading the way in the hunt for a third successive Premier League 2 title, it’s set to be another special year for the Club’s Academy.
Wilcox, our Academy Director, let his pride shone through after the most recent success, stating: “To win the U18 Premier League North four years in a row is something we are very proud of.
“Our priority is developing individual players and maximising their potential, but to finish top of the league for four consecutive years requires a huge team effort and every member of Academy staff has played an active role. They should all be very proud.
“On behalf of everyone at the Academy, I would like to send huge congratulations to Ben, his multi-disciplinary team and the players for what they have achieved so far.
“Our full focus now is on trying to win the National final for the third year in a row. I know Ben and his staff will ensure the squad are prepared for what will be a fantastic occasion.”
