The award caps an exceptional season for the 18-year-old striker.
Delap topped the league’s scoring charts with his 24 goals helping City’s Elite Development Squad claim our maiden PL2 title.
Meanwhile Delap’s impressive goal tally was the most recorded in one season in the competition’s history.
In winning the award, the young forward saw off competition from City team-mate Cole Palmer, as well as Louie Barry, Aaron Ramsey, Charlie Cresswell, Sam Greenwood, Connor McBride and Shola Shoretire from Aston Villa, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United respectively.
The PL Player of the Season award also helped cap an unforgettable campaign for Delap, who also made his Premier League debut against Leicester City in September, three days after scoring on his starting debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in a 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.
The striker was also a key figure in the City side that won the 2020 FA Youth Cup back in November, before he was then named the PL2 Player of the Month in the same month.
Delap said: “Obviously the talent and quality in the league is so high so to win is a great achievement and I’m very proud of it.
“I sat down at the start of the season and set some targets – and they were set quite high as I wanted to strive to try and achieve them and not make them too easy
“I think I smashed them all, so for me, it’s just been a great season both individually and collectively as a team with what we have achieved.
“For me individually it has been incredible. And as a squad, we’ve smashed records in the league with the points we won, the goals we scored, the young age of the squad to win and obviously the first City team to win PL2.
“So, I just think it been an incredible season and one to be very proud of.
“Personally, as a striker I’ve only been happy if I come off and score. I have that hunger to keep doing it every game. If I get two, I want to get that third – it’s just in me that I just want more and more.
“Collectively, as a group we all get on and that chemistry has meant we kept working hard all season long and I think what we achieved is a credit to the team, the staff and everyone involved.”
